Intro and Quotes

Jordan

Welcome to Romance Recs. We are three romance obsessed besties, sharing book res, broken down by genres and tropes so you can be sure you're getting exactly what you want out of your next read. I'm Jordan. I am currently listening to Rebel Witch by Kristen Cicirelli, and I am reading Queen of Annihilation by Devyn Sinclair, and I'm about to start. Obedience Volume two by Lizzie B. Brown

Devonnie

I love that. Hey guys, this is Dev. I am actually reading and listening to Wild Side by Elsie Silver, and that's pretty much it right now. That's all I got.

Jordan

and instead of Christina today we have.

Lizzie

Lizzie. Hi,

Devonnie

Woohoo.

Jordan

Yay.

Devonnie

Welcome Lizzie to the pod.

Lizzie

woo. I'm currently reading Craving In His Blood by Zoe Draven. I just started it. It's the second book in a series. I loved the first book and I've been getting kind of a slump lately. So vampires in space.

Jordan

Oh, nice.

Devonnie

Yeah. I love that. That's up my alley. I love a little sci-fi, but I also am obsessed with vampires, so I feel like I need to write that down.

Lizzie

Yeah,

Jordan

for a slump, like very

Lizzie

is.

Jordan

So buckle up for some bookish banter. I'll throw that in. Make sure we get that in there for Christina. She's not here.

Devonnie

I know. That's her little tag. I'm so excited to have Lizzie on the pod.

Jordan

I know, uh, for those of you that don't remember that haven't listened to everything we've had, I have recommended a couple of Lizzie's books. I think I found you online almost a year ago. I was, I don't even remember how, uh, but I looked back and I read, uh, Friendsgiving with Benefits last May. And I just kind of fell in love with your characters.

Lizzie

thank you. Say most people that find me, it's kind of random. A lot of people are like, I think I saw you on TikTok live a couple years ago. Okay,

Devonnie

that's so interesting.

Jordan

That's awesome. The book too just intrigued me and I just fell in love. So we're so excited to have you here and chat about your books and just just the whole writing, putting out your books into the world but before we get started I forgot to ask you if you came with a quote,

Devonnie

yeah.

Lizzie

So I actually The other thing I've been reading a lot lately is obedience volume two, since it's coming out soon. And one of my favorite quotes from it is. Hold up. Were you naked busting in on him, or is was he naked when you burst in? Ah, it's always a mouthful, but yeah, hold up. Were you naked

Devonnie

Were you naked?

Lizzie

or was he naked? When you burst in? It's a very out of context quote, but I love it.

Devonnie

Okay.

Jordan

But people are naked. People are busted. Good. It's,

Devonnie

Naked and busting is all you need to know.

Lizzie

Yeah.

Devonnie

okay. I have a quote too. I thought this would be a prime time to, uh, think back to when I read Kissing the Coronavirus.

Jordan

I don't know when that's ever a good idea, but,

Devonnie

Anytime's a good time to discuss the coronavirus and its impact on our nation in our country. In our world. Okay. In our planet,

Jordan

in this economy, really

Devonnie

Yes. And I thought since we would be talking to Lizzie, who, you know, writes erotica, that this would be a wonderful time to combine the seriousness of the coronavirus and erotica. So here we go.

Jordan

I'm gonna have nightmares.

Devonnie

Alexa felt a rush of excitement every time she picked up the Corona sample, like a pulsating, erect penis.

Jordan

Oh,

Devonnie

to unleash its devastation on anyone who touched it.

Jordan

Stop it. Why? Yeah.

Lizzie

That's some actual quality writing right there, though.

Devonnie

I think it was superb. I think it was succinct. I think we understand the devastation that's going to be, you know, released. I think the throbbing pulsating penis comparison really lets you know what you're getting into. So you're welcome. Jordan hates me.

Jordan

Well, I am gonna read a quote from, sorry. I just, that's fucking book every time. I hate it so much. I just feel a little sick. I feel like I have the coronavirus a little bit every time I hear it.

Devonnie

I never want to have the coronavirus ever again after reading this book, but thank you.

Jordan

Oh. Anyways, so my quote today is from Coming for Christmas by Lizzie, be Brown.

Devonnie

Not coming for Christmas

Jordan

Oh yeah. There's lots of coming for Christmas, But a lot of cumings and different bars. Marry me poppy. Three little words, the same request after every blowjob, but for the first time, I held real hope.

Devonnie

Poor thing.

Jordan

Poor, little nixy,

Devonnie

I hate that. Not marry me every time.

Jordan

for those of you that haven't read Friendsgiving with benefits or. Coming for Christmas. Poppy and Nixon are the best of friends with the best of benefits, and after every blowjob, he always asks her to marry him because Poppy's just that amazing and she just brushes it off'cause it's a joke. But until it's not so much a joke.

Lizzie

That's the funny thing is that's the, like he. I thought it was kind of a funny thing to do that like he's dead serious every time and he just doesn't seem to understand that's not the time to do it.

Jordan

It is the post nut clarity really. It's too clear. It's too much clarity.

Devonnie

I, if someone ever asked me to marry them after that context, I would throat punch them.'cause like right now, really? No.

Jordan

Yeah. But if it's like you're, if you're like friends with benefits, they're just like. Oh my God. Marry me. Oh, that was such a good gl. That's funny. If that's your ba,

Lizzie

Exactly.

Jordan

they banter.

Devonnie

it, yeah. Funny banter, but like really asking me to marry you after that.

Lizzie

the joke.

Jordan

their

Lizzie

Yeah, he does. She doesn't know he's serious. He just always

Devonnie

That's what I'm

Lizzie

Yeah. Like

Devonnie

That's what I'm saying. He's serious.

Lizzie

serious and she's just oh. And

Devonnie

What

Lizzie

yeah.

Jordan

I love Poppy man. I love Poppy so much. Sorry. We'll get into that. But another reason we have you on right now is because volume two of obedience is coming out. April April 5th. Little asmr. Thank you Dev with

Devonnie

You're welcome.

All About Obedience Vol 1&2

Jordan

volume one there.'cause this is an audio podcast, not a visual one. But tell us about obedience and what you have coming out and what's going on.

Lizzie

obedience started as a serial on Kindle Villa which is no longer a thing, but I do still have it ongoing on my Patreon. I loved Villa.

Devonnie

It was fun.

Lizzie

but it's essentially the opening concept was what's the one thing. That people tend to be really icky about age gap. Besides the gap in age. And when I talk to a lot of people, it's the under most circumstances, especially when it comes to like more taboo and forbidden romance, the older person is always in a position of power. So can the younger person ever truly consent? It's always dubious consent at best. And I was like. I could have a little fun with that. So Obedience is a college professor that is submissive to his student and you get like a little bit of both of their POVs and you see that he is genuinely submissive. She is genuinely in control. This isn't necessarily just only role play in the bedroom. Although to be fair, he doesn't realize she's his student. The first time they hook up. He's in another state. He has no reason to believe he's gonna see her ever again, and then the first day of the new semester starts.

Jordan

I think that's what allowed me to stay hooked is just like knowing that they had that connection first. It wasn't like.

Devonnie

wasn't like.

Jordan

A professor seeing their student in that moment, it was because when he did see her in that setting, it was an, oh fuck.

Devonnie

That's one of my favorite I don't know if it's a trope, it's something I love. I think sometimes it, it gets predictable, like in movies and stuff when you see it play out. But I love reading that moment where it's oh, y'all did it and y'all are about to like work together or be at school together, or, that's now your kid's nanny. Or you know, I love when it's that. Oh shit. Look who's popped back up, so that was nice.

Lizzie

Yeah, and I read a lot of I love age gap. I read a lot of age gap and professor and student stuff, so it's kind of funny that I

Jordan

No shame here.

Lizzie

yeah, I

Devonnie

Yeah.

Lizzie

twist on it.'cause like for me the professor could actually pursue his student, like openly and I would be like, yeah, that's cool. But I was like, you know what I think this is a challenge. I wanna see if I can do this. And it turned out like working better than I thought it would because especially as somebody that's. In my early forties at this point, like realizing that when you're an adult you don't know what the hell you're doing still. So I was able to play a lot into that where when you read the book, like she is definitely the more immature out of the two. But there are moments where I try to have it be a little more real where it's, he does not know what he's doing. He's floundering at moments. But in that there's still a lot of spice. One of the other things I tried to do is even though the relationship is more of a dom sub adjacent, I the first book is them kind of just going into it blind. Neither one of them is part of the kink scene. They don't really wanna label anything. So it's kind of a look at what happens. When you dive in head first, have no idea what you're doing and don't know about properly communicating and setting clear boundaries, because I think most people in their day-to-day lives is if you're not in, if you're not in the kink scene, you don't necessarily know what you're doing. You read books, you might see a couple movies, and you're like, oh, that's how it works. And then book two, volume two. You're gonna see more growth where they're both okay, if this is going to be a thing, we do need to actually communicate. We do need to start using labels if for no other reason than to make sure we understand what our roles are so we understand each other.

Jordan

I love

Lizzie

You also get introductions of more characters on the side,

Jordan

excited

Devonnie

love side characters.

Lizzie

characters that you already know.

Lizzie's Projects

Jordan

Yeah, I'm so nervous. A good kind of nervous,

Devonnie

So I feel like you kind of just pretty much told us, uh, a little bit of your catalog and like what you've got besides obedience and Poppy and Nicks. What other things are you working

Lizzie

so I have, two other serials that started out on Kindle Villa that are still on Patreon that are actually obedience spinoffs. So in obedience, he's got his best friend Eddie. And Eddie has another best friend, Carla, and they actually have their own kind of little side POV chapter in volume one. But they actually have their own cereal called the Bucket List, where Carla has had the hots for Eddie for like ages. They work together. But like it's one of those, he, there's people and there's women, and then there's Carla. I. So she's not women, so he respects her. And it's one of those where if you were to talk to Eddie, he doesn't think he's misogynistic and disrespectful. He is very respectful of women. But the fact that he treats Carla different because she's not women, kind of speaks volumes to his and as a character. But basically like their story is they kind of start to realize, like he realizes he might actually have feelings for her and. She takes advantage of the moment when something happens between them and it was like, Hey, I've never really been kinky. Why don't I like make a sex bucket list and you help me cross things off of it. And so that is where it follows their relationship. That's actually where Nixon and Poppy first appear is their serial is Poppy, is Carla's boss.

Jordan

Oh

Lizzie

And Nixon is their office mate. Like they all work in an office with two other characters that you see in Nixon and Poppy's nve and coming for Christmas. Carla just doesn't typically hang out with them because she's not the nerd that they are.

Jordan

cause they do cost play and stuff together. That's how a lot of them met. And

Lizzie

yeah and. Carla just follows Eddie around to the sports bars and whatnot and hikes with him and is pretty much wherever he's at. And then the other serial is called Janet's story. Janet is Joshua's ex. The kind of reason that Joshua is where he's at the beginning of obedience volume two, and her story is an age gap MFM, where one of the guys is 12 years older and one of the guys is 12 years younger. And you wanna talk about those like gotcha moments? She doesn't know it when she starts a relationship with each man and they don't know it either, but it's like the younger one the older guy's, the younger one's dad's best friend.

Jordan

I was waiting for a connection.

Devonnie

yeah. Yeah.

Jordan

like,

Lizzie

it's the guy he calls uncle.

Jordan

No. Oh, Lizzie.

Devonnie

no, Lizzie, he calls him uncle and he, they both sandwich in Carla looking at each other in the eye.

Lizzie

Janet. This one's Janet. Yeah. Yeah.

Jordan

Carla would

Lizzie

no. Carla. Carla would die of embarrassment. Nope. But yeah, and that actually is kind of, some scenes like that after they find out it's, there, there's I had some fun on that one, making some very awkward moments into some sexy moments, because I will say one, one of them is experienced in threesomes, and I won't tell you which one.

Devonnie

Gotta be the younger one. My money's on the

Jordan

Can you imagine uncle teaching?

Devonnie

That's why I have to, that's why for me, it has to be the younger one because I don't want uncle looking at him like hey just shift to the left. Really. Yeah. So what you wanna do is tilt. I, I don't, I'll actually gag, but I do love a little drama in a book, so that's definitely a good place to

Lizzie

The, and that definitely has the drama. And then currently I'm releasing three stories kind of as I write them on Patreon to kind of keep me motivated. And one is a. Dark paranormal romance, white shoes. One is a contemporary throuple book, and then one is a fantasy that's starting out is mf but eventually will become white shoes down the line. It's a very slow build to the other men. The one I'm having the most fun with right now is the Paranormal romance. Why choose? It's an isaka. I know not a lot of people know what an isaka is.

Devonnie

Yeah, please educate me. I have no idea what you're talking about right now.

Jordan

about.

Lizzie

It's a big in mostly Japanese comics, anime, et cetera. That's where the term came from. You'll also see it though, in a lot of web tunes and whatnot, that the basic translation is transported to another world.

Devonnie

Okay.

Lizzie

the big trend the last couple years is somebody dies and wakes up in said world, oftentimes a fictional world, like a video game or book that they love. So the paranormal romance is, I died and woke up in my favorite paranormal romance novel.

Devonnie

Oh my gosh, how cute is that? I love that

Lizzie

chapter one is she wakes up bound to an altar in an old church. And this dude that looks kind of familiar is like kind of going off on her and she realizes it's her favorite character from her favorite book. So she seduces him. Yeah. In chapter one is straight into church sex.

Devonnie

As you also do,

Jordan

Like Imagine Dev, you have an accident and you wake up and you're tied down. A ol is just there with

Devonnie

in the ice.

Jordan

but yeah. And you're there. Yeah. And he's per your. I mean,

Devonnie

Yeah. Yeah. I'm in heaven.

Jordan

rolling with it.

Devonnie

right because the way the barbarians love their women down. I would like to be in my favorite paranormal romance as well. Yeah,

Lizzie

Exactly.

Devonnie

great.

Jordan

I love it. So you have a very active Patreon.

Lizzie

I try to, yeah.

The Writing Process

Jordan

yeah. You have so much going, you have so many projects. So how often do you release? What do you include in your Patreon? Just for anyone interested.

Lizzie

So I, I try to release when I can at least one thing weekly. Like right now I have three different stories releasing weekly. Uh, once or twice a year I might I go on like a month hiatus to recharge and get some like back catalog, but. I try to keep everything I have trouble paying attention a lot of times to what I'm doing. So it's, I will hyper focus on one of my stories, pump out quite a few chapters, hand'em over to my beta readers, then focus on the next one, and I just keep doing like that. So I have a lot of different projects going on.'cause initially when obedience was first released, it was obedience. The bucket list and Janet story, were all going at the same time for a while. There's a lot of crossover between the bucket list and obedience. So I was having to go back and forth to give like prospective PO fees. So I have very long calendars in my late folders to keep track of who was actually where when.

Jordan

Is that how you work best when you're doing it just to keep the creative, like you like to jump around? So did this come about because that's how you like to write or is this something you've accidentally fallen into

Lizzie

Well, both like What the, so the fantasy story that's on my Patreon right now into the mountains of Mastria, that was like the first one I really tried to pound out. But I found out after two months I was getting burnt out also because fantasy needs a lot of world building and I'm very bad at like sloppy first drafts, so I was getting in the weeds. So that one it's a very slow right. Whereas contemporary, the universe is already built for you. So I don't have to, I don't have to do anything, but yeah, I have to keep I have to keep myself busy and creating, but I can't focus on one thing for too long or I lose focus completely on what's going on in it. So it's a by choice, but not by choice. Writing style.

Devonnie

Yeah, I mean that, that choice actually, or that writing style intrigues me because. I like the idea of having very clear continuity between different books that are in your U universe that you're building, right? And if you're writing them all at the same time, I feel like everything's just so fresh and so connected. You can jump around a little better. So even at some people that might seem chaotic, to me, that seems like really smart. Like that way you can flush things out as they come along between everything.

Lizzie

That's actually how Friendsgiving came about was because I realized Nixon and Poppy weren't just gonna be side characters in the bucket list. They were starting to take a bigger role in that in a, in the rest of the universe in general. And I was like, I need to really hammer out what their backstory, it's'cause, just'cause it's in my head. It's not gonna make sense to a lot of people when certain things start to happen. Cough volume two, if you don't know their backstory.

Devonnie

Yeah.

Lizzie

Well, and that, and there's certain things that when you subscribe to my Patreon, there's bonus chapters that they started out with, things I wasn't putting on Kindle Vela. And they don't make it into like obedience volume one and volume two. People actually have POVs that I'm like in a book form. It's not gonna make sense to have these random POVs when it's not their story. So on Patreon you can find that.

Devonnie

Yeah, I love that.

Jordan

That's awesome.

Origin Story

Devonnie

All right. And then when did you actually start writing as far, if you wanna talk about these series, like series that you're writing with kind vela or like from the beginning of time, like when did you pick up your pen or your computer and say, yeah, I'm gonna write this.

Lizzie

Like I've been writing on and off, like personally since like middle school I would be like up late writing weird stories. I'm pretty sure. I was judged by my fellow classmates, but to be fair, I was writing weird stuff. And I don't know why, I don't know why I was sharing it with them. I don't think any of them actually wanted to read it. And I, I always felt kind of bad once I got older. That was like,

Jordan

Oh, little Lizzie.

Lizzie

fanfiction.net. I wrote a slayers fanfic, a lemon. For the older people that know what a lemon is. And I am so grateful that I think like on the first fan fiction purge, the story was probably whatever, so nobody will ever find it like,

Jordan

One of the few things that actually got buried on the internet.

Devonnie

Yeah. Yeah.

Lizzie

it was like the truth or dare trope it. It was,

Jordan

yeah. Who didn't write one of those?

Lizzie

Yeah. But professionally, I. Obedience was published, I wanna say back in 2022 on Kendall Villa, because that was the big thing. Was it ipu? I published the first episode the day before my birthday, and then volume one released on its two year anniversary.'cause that's what I was trying to, if I have my years right, so

Jordan

Nice.

Lizzie

yeah.

Devonnie

I love that. I know Kind velo made it really easy for that style of writing too, and you just, you wanted to keep your readers and your community engaged. You can just pump out these episodes, like whenever

Lizzie

I feel because it had Amazon behind it, it felt a little more legitimate than some of the other apps that, that's the problem is there's so many apps like that out there that it's very hard, plus a lot of them. You can't just post and if you can, you're not guaranteed to make money. Whereas Vela was nice'cause it gave authors a chance to raise the funds. A lot of people would post their stories there before they were books and use the money they were making from Vela to get the editor to clean it up and pay the cover artist and do everything you need to publish. So I miss it.

Jordan

All the little things that go into the big project, Well, I was gonna ask you like plotter or pants, but I'd say you're more of a pants with an overall

Lizzie

it's I have basic outlines in my head. Like I know how obedience is gonna end. It's taken a lot of twists and turns. I have not expected, but I do know how it's gonna end, but I have to be careful about what I write down because if I write down too much, I'm the kind of person that if the outline gets derailed, I get very like upset. And if I get too detailed, then I'm like, well, the story's written, why do I need to actually write it now? And then I lose interest for a bit? So

Jordan

Okay.

Lizzie

It's kind of that if I want it told, I have to force myself to write it. So I, sometimes I purposely don't outline to make sure I get the words down on paper first.

Jordan

So you're like a hybrid.

Lizzie

Yeah, I reverse outline a lot, which is probably more work in the end, but. It keeps me moving forward.

Jordan

Yeah.

Devonnie

Yeah, I think as long as you find what works for you and the story is being written, honestly, you just gotta do it.'cause no two riders are the same. So whatever works for you.

This or That Game

Jordan

All right. Let's take a break from that Inquisition and just do a little fun game of this or that. Let's just, we're going to just ask you questions and you just have to go with your first instinct. Your preferred,

Devonnie

No thinking, just like saying,

Jordan

yeah, just, yeah. And it'll just be some light judging and it's not a big deal. It's the low stakes. Low

Devonnie

yeah.

Jordan

game. All right. Uh, I'll start and then Dev can do the last few. So

Devonnie

Yeah.

Jordan

physical or ebook,

Lizzie

ebook

Jordan

hot or ice to drink.

Lizzie

iced.

Jordan

Okay. Hardback or paperback?

Lizzie

Hardback

Jordan

One bed or who did this to

Lizzie

one bed,

Jordan

last. Okay. Okay. I could see that. Yeah.

Devonnie

Yeah.

Jordan

I'll do one more, and then it'll be dad's term, poppy or Nixon.

Lizzie

Nixon.

Devonnie

Interesting.

Jordan

Okay. Okay. We can talk about that later.

Devonnie

All right. Standalone or series.

Lizzie

Series

Devonnie

Yeah. I feel like that faded mates or enemies to lovers.

Lizzie

faded mates

Devonnie

Yes. Yes. Books that make you cry or books that make you laugh.

Lizzie

books that make me laugh.

Devonnie

Okay. And then in no particular order, name your top three book. Boyfriends of All Time.

Jordan

Or girlfriends.

Devonnie

Or Girlfriends. Or

Lizzie

Matthew from Lola in the Millionaires.

Jordan

Oh, I haven't read that one yet. That's on my forever.

Lizzie

Don't get me. Daddy Caleb from oh the mate games war.

Jordan

Okay.

Devonnie

know that one.

Lizzie

Oh

Jordan

these. I know all of these. They're all like on

Lizzie's Recs

Lizzie

no, the mate games. War is like my favorite series ever. I got, no, I'll get in a tangent on that. I gotta pull myself back, back in and then, actually, no. On that note, then, Ben, from Make Games Pestilence, I would round it out.

Devonnie

Yeah, I think it's fair. I don't, yeah, I don't know if the make games were

Jordan

Coming with the Recs. Coming with the Recs. I

Devonnie

good wrecks that I've never heard before. I love getting new

Lizzie

Yeah, no the audio books are full cast duet and so the first book for Make games War is Obsession. I kid you not that changed my brain chemistry. If you read or listen to it chapter 38, like chapter 38 is every that's how good it is. The

Jordan

when you remember the chapter

Devonnie

Yeah. Yeah.

Lizzie

I have gotten so many people to read that book that, like the book club I'm in, it's a joke like. Anybody that's half the book club's probably read it because of me and yeah, they just, you when new people come in, it's, I'm going to suggest that book.

Jordan

I love it. I love how everyone kind of has those books where you just, you remember the high you rode after reading the book, and specifically certain parts of it that kind of just hit you at random times in the day or random days where you're just like, oh, I remember that. That was a great scene.

Lizzie

I

Devonnie

Thinking about those characters.

Lizzie

or five different copies at this point signed of that series.

Jordan

Okay. I love

Devonnie

Okay.

Lizzie

I'm a little obsessed. Yeah.

Devonnie

yeah. That's good. Well, okay, so that's interesting because next question, is there a specific author that got you hooked on romance and erotica and is it the series? It sounds like the series was like your favorite or a tipping point,

Lizzie

so it's a rabbit hole of, I've always been kind of into romance. Like I wanna say my first like erotica book was The Sleeping Beauty and Rice.

Devonnie

Same.

Lizzie

Or no. I take that back. I used to read the Harlequin Blaze and sentence silhouettes, but I stopped because I like formulaic. But you have to be in the mood. And it's chapter two was the first chapter of sex, and then it would be no sex for a bit, and then it would go back into sex. But then I read Anne Rice the Sleeping Beauty trilogy, and I was like, oh my God. You can have a book that's just sex and it's kinky

Devonnie

Yeah. Yeah.

Lizzie

is amazing.

Devonnie

Right.

Lizzie

I was in my twenties at this was like two decades ago, so I didn't really know how to find this stuff and I was like, oh, well maybe the covers will tell me if the books are like that. And I would pick up books at used bookstores. And I'm like, no, these books are like very tame. I give up. So then years later, and this is actually what got me started writing and publishing is one of my best friends. But DM r all Femme Dungeons and Dragon Sessions during Covid, I, she's narrated a few audio books and sh I listened to hers to started out as oh, I'm gonna dip my feet in.'cause I've never really done audiobook and I wanna be supportive. And the last chapter of the first book, it's suddenly my best friend like talking very dirty and I love her, but that's not something I typically hear from her. She was always very clear, like our d and d games, like a few of us had to make a separate server if our characters wanted to get a little kinky'cause she was not about that. So we were polite and took it elsewhere. But I remember I came home from a walk and my husband's looking at me and he is she's talking real dirty to you right now. And he's, I was like, he's I can tell you look so uncomfortable right now. I was like, it's very weird because I'm used to her doing the voices and stuff from d and d, so it's, this is very much on par. But then she would find me audio books for a bit. I would tell her what I want. And she would find them. And then I was like, I want a Christmas romance where it's Santa and Krampus, but they're people, so it's like a hallmark but spicy. So he doesn't really Krampus isn't like a straight up monster. Like maybe he'll get horns at some point, but Krampus is like businessman that likes to punish and Santa's praise kink. And she's yeah, I don't think that exists. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And she's sweetie, that doesn't exist. You're gonna have to write it.

Jordan

Yeah.

Lizzie

I got a few chapters I've started and finished a few times. So we'll see if that ever comes out.

Jordan

I love that. If you need to bounce ideas off of anyone, I am

Devonnie

That actually sounds so good and also very apt because of course Santa would be a good boy. You know, like of

Lizzie

he likes when people are good. Yeah. He doesn't like when people are

Devonnie

Yeah, right? Yeah.

Lizzie

is very much likes when people are naughty.

Jordan

Yeah. He likes the degradation and,

Devonnie

And to punish a little bit. We love that.

Lizzie

also because of that, I got really into audio books. And then I discovered all the Queen's Men by Kim Lorraine

Devonnie

I feel like I know that one.

Lizzie

You might full cast, duet narration, Stella Hunter, which is also her as the main female lead. And that was my first full cast duet audiobook. So from that I discovered Kim Lorraine. So then I started, I joined her, went to her website, signed up for her like Little Street team, and joined her Patreon and then she co-wrote the mate games with Meg Ann.

Jordan

Oh

Devonnie

circle

Lizzie

yeah so I actually got like the original promo box when the first book came out, which I was not expecting. I just was like, oh, I'm gonna get like an advanced copy ebook of it and then something comes in the mail that's complete with an actual book and audiobook code. And I've been getting arcs for all the books since then, and I love it because. With the Make game series, we're up to the fourth series. Each book has four, or each series has four books. They pull in from the universes of their prior writings that were separate.

Jordan

Oh, cool.

Lizzie

these, yeah, so the first series Make Games War is actually like second gen characters from series that they wrote before they started co collaborating.

Devonnie

I

Jordan

Oh, that's fun.

Devonnie

really fun. Yeah.

Jordan

What a way to include both of your original characters and.

Devonnie

That's really cool. I like that. I don't know if I know anyone else doing that, so that's

Lizzie

yeah. So the same person that got me started writing kind of inadvertently helped me find my favorite series too. So

Jordan

Cool.

Devonnie

Oh, that's really nice. I like that full circle moment.

Jordan

Yeah.

Lizzie

that's what, well, in a volume one, it's actually dedicated to that friend. When I gave, she came.

Devonnie

I did see that

Lizzie

She came for my birthday and I handed her book and she started crying when she read the dedication, and I was like, no, it's.

Jordan

I would've been like, yes, I made you cry, so you're so nice. You're so kind.

Devonnie

I actually always look forward to making people cry. I'm always like, yes. Made you cry. Not in a bad way, not in a mean girl way, but in a, I'm so overcome with emotion way, you know?

Jordan

Depends on the situation. I'll go either way

Devonnie

Sick.

Jordan

and that's why I choose. I love Nixon, but that's why I choose Poppy. But anyways, I digress back to that.

Lizzie

But see, I choose who I choose for a reason,

Jordan

Yeah, why choose is always the best. So what, those are some of your like big reads from just your whole reading journey. But what about this last year? Has there been any recent reads that have stuck out to you recently

Lizzie

Grave matters.

Jordan

Oh yeah.

Devonnie

Karina Halle.

Lizzie

'cause my book club got in on the arc and I was on the plane coming home from Disneyland. When I read it, and apparently nobody else in the book club had started it yet, so I'm on the planes wifi typing like incoherent. Panic mode and using the discord spoiler tags on my things and everybody else is oh my God, what is going on? And I'm like, this book, you're making me read it alone. I hate you all. And

Devonnie

Yeah.

Lizzie

so then when they all started reading, they were going back to see my things and like trying to be, and they're like, oh my God, you weren't kidding.'cause I think somebody put it up on their Instagram. Like my reactions, because it's just constantly what the fuck? What the fuck? Oh my God, what the fuck is going on? I think I, oh no, it's this. It's just, it was very much like me panicking and it was like the most, oh, I loved it. I loved it so much.

Jordan

I've heard nothing but amazing things about grave matter and I have been just like waiting to read it. But I also, with the pod come some and all the arcs I sign up for come responsible. Reading so,

Devonnie

read responsibly.

Jordan

so Grave Matter is one of those books that I have like ready to read the moment that we stop recording for the season, and that'll be part of my like

Lizzie

You need to let me, you gotta let me know your reactions when you read it.'cause I feel like that's one of those books, I knew exactly what was gonna happen, but it was so outlandish to me that I'd convinced myself I was wrong and came up with a whole new theory. And then when things started happening, I was like, wait, I was right. I don't know if I liked that. I was right, but I was

Jordan

oh, interesting. Okay. You do have an arc. It's on the, it's on the second shelf in the back, like top second, row top. I just organized her books for her, so

Lizzie

well, yeah, because then,

Jordan

from the left on the top and the back.

Devonnie

I hate that you, I hate that you knew exactly where it was.

Jordan

Yes.

Lizzie

wait, because then she was at Book and Crowns, so we had to get the.

Devonnie

That's where I got this from. I got it from Book Gowns and Crowns, and I read the first couple chapter. I think I've only read like the first three chapters. What? But the writing Korean Halley has this really beautiful gift of writing spookily. Like it's just, it's very there's a word I'm like, when I'm reading, when I read the first couple chapters, I could feel it in my environment a little bit. It just felt like I was being watched or like things were just like tri triggering my brain a little bit. So I can't wait to finish that. I have some theories already, like within the first couple pages you're like, hold on, what's going on there?

Lizzie

It does a very good like shutter island vibe, so you don't know what's going

Jordan

I loved Shutter

Lizzie

So like even if you think you know what's going on, you're second guessing everything.

Devonnie

Yeah.

Lizzie

Yeah. It does a very

Devonnie

get that vibe a

Lizzie

it does a really good job of putting you in her shoes yeah.

Devonnie

it. I know. I can't wait to read it. Yeah, I'm excited. I can't wait till, yeah, I, again, we have to read responsibly so I can't finish it because there's honestly just so much to read. But I, you know, as soon as I got it from BGC, I love Carina Holly. She's one of my favorite authors, but also she's just aje, like just a nice human being. So I love supporting her. And I was flipping through the couple, I was like, oh my gosh. I just know I may eat this book up, but I can't right now. Karina, if you're listening to this, babe, sorry, I haven't finished it yet.

Lizzie

I finished it in two days because I had to stop sleeping so I could.

Devonnie

could finish it it has that vibe a little bit, I think.

Lizzie

Yeah. I was not gonna be able to rest until I got to the end.

Devonnie

Yeah. Once I'm reading it. Well, I'll be sure to hit you up oh my god.

Lizzie

Yes.

Jordan

I love books like that where it's like an instant, you know, this is gonna stay with you for a long time.

Devonnie

Yeah. Was that the main one from last year or did you have any other books that hit you like that too?

Lizzie

I mean, if you want me to keep plugging the mate games,'cause that's when the that's when the death series came out. So that one I wa I was really loving too. It was just, but then grave Matter came in at the end and I was just, okay. Yeah, no, that's, that kind of changed my whole year for me. Past that book in the make games. I almost don't remember what else I read I read a lot around Christmas. Uh, the, I wanna say, oh, let me, the Christmas Paw Wars or War Paws, the Christmas War paws.

Jordan

Oh,

Lizzie

it's a, about two vets. I saw it on threads and it was a really good they were childhood well. Childhood ash, like younger lovers, and then they had a falling out. It's a novella. It's a very quick read, but like when they start hooking up again, they haven't made up yet. It's like you don't see enough hate fucking in books

Jordan

Yeah.

Lizzie

of the most amazing hate fucking ever.

Jordan

Yes. You. I've been waiting for someone to say that I really have, like

Lizzie

well. Well, and where they chose to hate. Fuck. The, any of that would be the last thing on my mind when, you know, you're stranded and probably going to die, but, you know.

Jordan

Love it. What else are you gonna do?

Devonnie

Right. True. Yeah. The circumstances kind of guide. Guide that situation there.

Jordan

As someone who loves Bully Romance, I have to say I am all for hate fucking.

Devonnie

Yeah I don't know, I don't think I've read a good one. The, it's really not hate, yeah, I think you're right. Like the books I've read where they're like, oh, angry at each other y'all don't hate each other enough like this seems like you're having fun, you know?

Lizzie

Okay, so Christmas War Paws and it's PAWS because the, there's vets, there's dogs by Therese m Clark. an Enemies to Lovers Romcom Christmas novella. Second Chance. It's just.

Devonnie

I feel like I know that author Theresa M. Clark there, M Clark. Do I know that? Did she write chaser? No, that I might be thinking of a different

Lizzie

I just, it, it's when I was like going crazy on Christmas books after I got coming for Christmas written, I was like, and now I'm gonna actually enjoy reading Christmas books for a change. And

Devonnie

Yeah. Yeah.

Lizzie

such a fun read. I'm sure there were others, but that was one of the ones that like really stuck out.

Author Goals

Jordan

Nice. So you have sorry, I just lost all my shit. You obviously ob dnce volume two, you're publishing is coming out April 5th. After that, you're just gonna keep throwing stuff out on your Patreon. What's your next big, like what's your, what are your next goals?

Lizzie

I would like.

Devonnie

right. Sorry. It's Therese. Therese m Clark. I had to look it up. It would've bothered me all night. Therese m Clark also wrote Chaser. Yes. Good. But great. All right. My brain can rest. Thank you.

Jordan

And so can everyone else.

Lizzie

Big goals are eventually long-term finish out obedience. I think I can, it's gonna be at least another volume or two before that happens.'cause there's some things I'm gonna definitely wanna flush out. I would really like at some point. In the near future to get I dyed finished up, and then I'll probably try to pump out a novella. There's something I just started working on in between the other stuff that I'll see how it feels writing it. I like novellas because I can get an idea out really quickly But not, but I'm not obsessed with all of them. Lately, late when I write Nixon and Poppy, I get really in a zone. Unlike any of the other Char, I'm like in a very specific zone when I write them. So it's really easy to write them. So

Jordan

They do, they have their own. Well, it's just such a big chemist, like just, I just love them. And I know Lizzie's warned me about them. I know.

Lizzie

it's not like nobody's gonna have a happy ever after. It just might not be the way people think.

Jordan

It's a happily ever after four now.

Lizzie

Yeah,

Devonnie

interesting.

Jordan

Which is very, that, listen, I could do a whole episode on Poppy and Nickie. Like I,

Lizzie

I could too.

Jordan

I could do that. And I don't even know all, I haven't even read technically all of the content for them. I've only read the two published works, so

Lizzie

Well, I tell my husband about a lot of what I write, but those two I tell him next to nothing because I don't want him to get mad because there's some things that I've borrowed from him for Nixon.

Jordan

Oh,

Lizzie

Which is funny because my,'cause my husband is not bisexual like Nixon is, so I don't know if he would appreciate, he's very supportive of me and we have a child that is Pan and he is very supportive at that, but I don't think he'd necessarily be chill about vaguely basing a character. But yet, no. Like the

Jordan

My instinct is like to think, I'm like, I'm just gonna shut that down right now.

Lizzie

well because the. The pelvic tattoos. That's something that my husband used to really want. And then like he got, like after he got his first tattoo, he is I am not as into tattoos as you are. He is not that I wouldn't have them, but like they are not as great as you seem to think

Jordan

That's hilarious because I love Nixon's tattoos so much. When I read them, I ran to my husband. I'm like, listen to these tattoos.

Devonnie

y'all about your husbands.

Lizzie

Well, and then hi. His Spider-Man. My husband's not that obsessed with Spider-Man, but the pairing'cause how on one of his sleeves it's black Cat in Peter Parker. That's one of my husband's preferred pairings for them. So I kind of put little nods to him in there.

Jordan

Oh, but you won't tell him about it. I love, but you just don't tell him about it.

Lizzie

well, so to be fair, if I like one, he's very artistic himself, but we're very like. Different on what we share. And the last time I really shared in detail something I was writing, it was spoiler alert. There is a part in I died where she's actually not herself in the book when she wakes up in that, she wakes up in the body of a side character

Jordan

Oh,

Lizzie

and causes a little drama and one of the characters, gets a little like brutally attacked by another one as kind of an I, almost like an I love you, I'm pr like you want some touch her and die.

Devonnie

Oh, it's giving to And

Lizzie

No. Like he literally tries, like one of'em literally tries to kill the other at first. And I'm describing in great detail the scene about like limbs coming off. And my husband's what the hell is your problem? I'm like, that's not a, I'm like, it's not one of the sexy scenes. It's not meant to be sexy. And he's well, God, I would hope not.

Jordan

Which there are some scenes like that. I feel like we've talked about those on this spot. Like

Lizzie

like it's well after the bound on the alter sex scene. Nobody's having sex anymore at this point. Yeah.

Jordan

cleaned up. That's

Devonnie

Yeah. This is war. This is

Lizzie

like more sex happens, like in the chapter after. But this is a moment of you know, reset with some like mutilation

Devonnie

Yeah. Yeah.

Jordan

Dismemberment.

Devonnie

Right. Oh, normal.

Lizzie

yes, so I get kind of nervous sharing with him now because he was he'll, he's brought it up from time to time, be like like that thing you wrote. And I'm like,

Jordan

All right, judge mc Judger said, let's just tone it down.

Lizzie

Yeah.

Devonnie

Well, I hope he doesn't decide to, you know, be supportive and listen to this episode.'cause boy, anything you wanna listening?

Lizzie

you, baby.

Jordan

He didn't make it this far. It's fine. He's I listen to most of it. I'm

Devonnie

I'm out. Yeah. Oh.

Jordan

Perfect.

Devonnie

I love that. I love that. Well, I mean, Lizzie, is there anything else you wanna share? I definitely want you to drop your Patreon information, but if there are any other books you wanna tell us that's coming, any other platforms, your Discord,

Lizzie

if you go to my website, you can find most everything, lizzie b brown.com. I try to make it very simple, there's even an invite to my discord there. I try not to plan books too far on in advance. Because I have such a sporadic writing style, I don't wanna say something's coming out on next date and it not come out.'cause I don't

Devonnie

I love that about. I love that. I love that. Thank

Lizzie

Once it's to a point where I can give it to the editor, that's usually when I'll be like, Hey, I have a date. So maybe by the end of this year or early next year, there'll be obedience volume three. I'm in kind of a heavy point of the story. So it's been a little difficult'cause I'm trying to get past somebody's tantrum.

Devonnie

Is your character having this tantrum without your like say, so

Lizzie

Yeah, no, it he's a very, he's a very difficult, sensitive boy, and he doesn't like Joshua right now.

Jordan

Oh, I can, okay. Well, Lizzie

Devonnie

Interesting.

Lizzie

So my beta readers, by, by the time Friendsgiving came out, my beta readers knew so much more about obedience that they were like actually really confused and that's why I knew the book needed to come out and then coming for Christmas, and they're like, I know how things are gonna happen in the future, but I kind of like it how it's like this right now. And I'm like, I'm sorry.

Jordan

Actually, I can't wait because, okay. We can talk after the recording's done, so everybody doesn't have to hear me go off about a certain someone,

Lizzie

But, and like I want to eventually get enough of Janet story out that I can start releasing volumes. I don't think I would ever do that for the bucket list because it's it's a little too. Surrealistic that I don't think it would play as well, even in a volume setting. Janet's story probably would though. But I think my next big push outside of getting more obedience l is to get my dark paranormal. Why Choose Done? Because at least the first book, because it's so much fun and I've actually had a narrator do the first chapter.

Devonnie

That's big.

Lizzie

like she, she asked for her Patreon if she could, and she cast and I was like, go for it.

Jordan

Yeah.

Devonnie

amazing. Yeah, and that, I'm sure that gets you excited too, to keep writing the character, especially when you can hear it and keep writing the

Lizzie

she's enjoying reading what I have so far, so that's been my real big push to finish it. I'm like, somebody's enjoying it, so therefore I can keep writing it.

Devonnie

Right, right. Yeah. We need the little push. We need the

Lizzie

Joshua's kind of me at times, so I need the praise.

Devonnie

You know, I too require the

Lizzie

Well, that's I joke. Joshua is me

Jordan

both doing really well. You're both doing really well.

Lizzie

Joshua's me now.

Jordan

whole interview

Lizzie

at my late twenties when I was a little more reckless. So it's if I was like dating myself, I guess.

Devonnie

Oh,

Jordan

Oh,

Devonnie

I love that.

Lizzie

But yeah, but you can find everything at my website, the Patreon, the content warnings. I do tell people, check the content warnings.'cause some of my I'm pretty numb to a lot of stuff, so I don't think about it when I'm writing it. So I try to, when I go in after the fact, make sure I give people the heads up.'cause the last thing I want is somebody to see something they don't want.

Devonnie

I love that. And Lizzie, you wanna drop your handle on socials. That way our followers can, or listeners can know where to get you.

Lizzie

So on TikTok, it's just at Lizzie B. Brown on Instagram and Threads, it's Lizzie b Brown.

Closing

Devonnie

Perfect. Love that. Thank you so much for being on the pod with us. Lizzie. I can't wait to read more. I'm really interested in the paranormal romance

Lizzie

thing

Devonnie

waking up in your

Lizzie

the nice thing about my Patreon, it's, there's several tiers, but they all get you the same thing. So like I want it to be where if somebody wants to go the lower tier because that's what they can afford, then that's what they can do.

Devonnie

actually really sweet. Yeah, that's really nice. I love that. All right. Well, thanks for listening to us ramble about all things Lizzie B Brown and all the books you have currently out and upcoming.
